As gay bars close their doors all around the United States, due to a variety of causes, from Covid, to gentrification, to the mainstreaming of queer identity — two Indianapolis-Cincinnati watering holes have made a list of the best LGBTQ bars in the nation.
English Ivy's in Indianapolis and Below Zero Lounge in Cincinnati were also included on a coveted list of the 100 best LGBTQ bars in the country.
In honor of Pride Month, Yelp curated the "Top 100 LGBTQ Bars" by choosing businesses based on a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of user reviews recorded between Jan. 1, 2016, and April 28, 2021.
English Ivy's was placed at No. 63 while Below Zero Lounge in Over-the-Rhine was placed at No. 82 on Yelp's list.
Known simply as “Ivy’s” to locals, the 63rd best bar in the U.S. has a vintage feel and is located in the St. Joseph neighborhood downtown. It’s a welcoming place with a late-night menu featuring delicious pizzas.
