I remember having quite the temper as a child, especially when gaming was involved. I can't tell you how many controllers I broke by chucking them across the room, then telling my Mom I had no idea how it got that way.
I've grown up a bit, and I rarely throw gaming tantrums anymore. Although I admittedly have created new profanities because of games that ticked me off.
So, what, in gaming, makes you want to chuck your controller?
The thing that bugs me most usually does so before I even begin playing a game. You've bought your favorite new game on the release date, and you can't wait to get home from work to have a date night with your controller. You put in the disc, excited that you have to wait no longer. Except, you probably do. The game you just bought, although brand new, already has an update that you need to download. Or, for some games, an install that takes nearly an hour.
Call me old-fashioned, but I long for the days of the old Nintendo cartridges. Sure, you might have to blow on the connectors every now and then, but there were no updates.
Another big pain in the neck, which Managing Editor Patrick Armstrong reminded me of, are the in-game camera systems. I don't remember this being a problem until Super Mario 64. You're almost to the end of a level that required a lot of precise jumping. Sweat drips down your forehead, but you're almost there. That is, until the camera goes wonky as you make your last jump, forcing you to stare at the plumbers plump little keister. Then, you're dead.
I could go on and on about this subject all day, but I want to hear from you? What really ticks you off in the world of gaming?
