Elliot Page produces transgender documentary

Variety has reported that Elliot Page has agreed to executive produce a transgender-themed documentary film titled “Nel Mio Nome” (“Into My Name”) by Italian director and producer Nicolò Bassetti. The film was inspired by Bassetti's own experience with the transition of his child Matteo.

The film will have its world premiere during the Berlin Film Festival in the Panorama Dokumente section.

“Into My Name” is set in the Italian city of Bologna and follows Nico, Leo, Andrea, and Raff, in their 20s and 30s, as they start their gender transition, and navigate the binary world.

Page in a statement: “What stands out to me about ‘Nel Mio Nome’ is the way it so artfully and intentionally presents all the different pieces that make up a person’s identity.”

“It’s a meditation on trans humanity and I’ve never seen another film like it,” the actor, producer and activist continued. “Knowing that Bassetti consulted closely with his trans son throughout production is so beautiful to me, and I think that lived experience and input is clear in the film’s perspective. I’m honored to be onboard and can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

Bassetti said, “I am truly grateful to Elliot for adding his lived perspective to help our film find its way in the world.”

Page came out as gay in 2014, a decision that he said helped his mental health but still left him searching. "The difference in how I felt before coming out as gay to after was massive," Page told Time.
