The fifth-annual event date is here for Nashville Care's Dining Out For Life, so make plans to eat at your favorite restaurant today to help support the fight against HIV/AIDS.
This year Nashville Cares has succeeded in arranging 62 locations with 73 different meals. For those readers who cannot attend dinner or lunch, breakfast will also be served (see participating list below for more information).
Participation is simple. Diners choose a restaurant from the list and dine out. No special arrangements have to be made with few exceptions. If you are going with a large group reservations might be appropriate. Between 30 and 100% of the proceeds are donated by the participating restaurants.
"Eat Well for a Good Cause" is this year’s theme. This "good cause" is the service provided by Nashville Cares, such as raising money to support HIV prevention, education and case management and support services to most of the Middle Tennessee area.
The celebrity co-host again this year will be CMT’s Katie Cook. Event Co-chairs will be Nashville’s food celeb and former restaurant critic for the Nashville Scene, Kay West and restaurateur Wonnie Short. Both are Nashville Cares board members.
As an added incentive, Southwest Airlines will be giving away two round-trip tickets anywhere they fly. There will be donation envelopes at each location. A donation is not required for the drawing.
Susan Kastan, Nashville Cares director of development, notes that 100 volunteers will be at the restaurants as hosts. They invite friends and families or larger groups, to dine out with them to increase awareness and food sales. Also helping out are Katherine Buchman and Jensen Davis, co-managers of the event.
Today Cares serves seventeen counties of northern middle Tennessee, which accounts for 90 percent of the reported incidence of HIV/AIDS in the Middle Tennessee region and about one-third of all cases in the entire state. For more Nashville Cares information link to: www.nashvillecares.org/about .
