‘Cuts for a Cause’ raises money for local charities

The first Cuts for a Cause charity fundraiser at Lucky’s Garage raised almost $700 for local AIDS services charity Nashville CARES, exceeding the expectations of its organizers, Lucky’s Garage owners Tony Daniel and T. Allen Morgan.

“This was great fun for us and our customers,” said Morgan. “And I’m thrilled that we were able to raise a significant amount of money for such an important cause. We hope to have many more Cuts for a Cause events in the future.”

Tracy Hill, Alicia Powell and Leslie Burke of Bishop’s Salon and Day Spa in Bellevue and Derek Deering of Hair Pavilion in Nashville donated their time and skills for the event. Cuts were done on stage in front of live audience with commentary from the hairdressers in the style of a hair show.

Nearly three dozen patrons received hair cuts during the event in exchange for their donations of $10 or more. Customers not getting their hair cut were also encouraged to make donations.

In a challenge to customers, Lucky’s owner Tony Daniel offered to have his head buzzed if the event raised $500 or more for Nashville CARES. That goal was quickly surpassed and Daniel made good on his promise to have his stylish locks shorn, to the delight of attendees.

Lucky’s Garage owners plan to repeat the Cuts for a Cause event on the second Wednesday of each month. Charities interested in participating should contact Lucky’s owner T. Allen Morgan at 329-1383 extension 2 for more information. Lucky’s is also encouraging recommendations for charity beneficiaries from its customers.
