Long-time community members and activists Matthew Strader and Ross Stone have announced the completion of their first project in a series of ultra-modern, high-end-living homes in North Nashville. The homes feature a California-inspired contemporary design with a strong emphasis on being “green.”
The homes also offer an unobstructed view of downtown Nashville that includes East Nashville, Germantown and the Cumberland River.
“We wanted to bring something to Nashville that this area simply hasn’t seen,” explains Stone, the lead designer on the project. “The styling of these homes coupled with one of the most amazing full panoramic views of Nashville makes this project unparalleled in this region.”
Literally nestled in the hills of Fern Avenue, the new development features 3,200 to 4,000 square foot homes that take a “design forward” approach to residential building.
“We recognize that so many people, ourselves included, are taking environmental issues seriously and we worked to incorporate those principles into an eco-friendly or ‘green’ design,” says Strader. “One key design element is an amazing twenty foot by twenty-nine foot wall of glass, which allows natural light into the open-air floor plan and eliminates the need for most artificial lighting during daytime hours.”
The homes also incorporate enviro-friendly renewable building materials such as bamboo flooring, high efficiency appliances and lighting, and an optional solar package.
Partners in life as well as business, Strader and Stone are familiar faces within the Nashville GLBT community. Both have logged many volunteer hours with a number of non-profit organizations including Nashville Pride and the HRC Showdown. They see the Fern Avenue development as a natural extension of their desire to give something back to the community.
“We’re obviously in business to generate revenue,” explains Strader, “but as a builder, it is rewarding to revitalize an area that has such great potential but has been in need of new life and investment for some time. We’re already seeing the difference that our development has made for the members of the Fern Avenue community in terms of renewed interest and investment in the area.”
