Chiropractor starts HouseCalls business in Nashville

Dr. Christopher May, a chiropractor who moved to Nashville from the Tampa area last November, has started a new house call chiropractic service in the Nashville area.

May, who grew up in the Lewisburg, Tenn. area, founded HouseCalls chiropractic service in January 2003 and has been providing convenient home care services to patients for the last five years. May’s home care chiropractic service is available in the Nashville Metropolitan area.

May graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in December 1995 and from the largest chiropractic college in the United States, Life Chiropractic University, in Marietta, Georgia in September 2000. He holds chiropractic licenses in the states of Tennessee and Florida, and has been practicing chiropractic for the last seven years in Tampa and in Nashville. He has extensive experience treating patients with problems ranging from neck and back pain to shoulder and knee problems as well as providing weight loss and nutritional consulting, physical therapy and personal training.

"Physician house calls have steadily declined since the 1930s despite the increased number of homebound patients," May said. "Advances in technology caused the initial shift to hospital and office-based care due to the sheer size of medical instrumentation and equipment. "

May explained the same technology that provides us with I-pods and other handheld computing devices has also miniaturized modern medical equipment allowing a doctor to easily provide the same quality care in the comfort of a patient’s home.

"A typical chiropractic office provides physical therapy modalities such as TENS (electric stimulation) and ultrasound in addition to chiropractic adjustments to aid in pain relief and to decrease healing time," he said. "The same quality therapy can now be provided with handheld, easily portable equipment that can be brought directly to the patient. And in addition, usually more time is spent with each patient in an environment that is more comfortable for them.”

May charges $75 for a typical exam and treatment, and does not accept insurance.

"Insurance is not accepted, however, I can provide you with a detailed receipt that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Payment is due at time of service. Cash and checks are accepted," he said.
