Axis BodyWork offers relaxing environment for what ails you

“Whether you just want to relax or for something that ails you, Axis BodyWork is the place for you,” soothingly goes the catch line for the newly minted Axis BodyWork.

The fresh-catch massage therapy parlor, 3902 Hillsboro Road in Nashville, promises a wide variety of services for the weary, buttoned-down corporate-type including reduction of stress, circulation of blood, release of tensions and, of course, the ever-popular release of toxins.

Axis BodyWork was founded by Mason Hall, a nationally recognized massage therapist and Natural Health Institute graduate (and a member of the Nashville Association of Professional Persons). While the Belmont-degree-certified Hall trudged the corporate world for many years, he decided to start a massage therapy business as a way to personally interact with a hodgepodge of interesting characters.

“A close friend had attended a few classes at a massage school here in town and suggested to me that I investigate it,” Hall said. “The rest, as they say, is history, because I fell in love with it.”

In late 2004, Hall incorporated Axis BodyWork. Last January, Hall trucked his business in the pristine-clean Sanctuary for Yoga building across from Walgreen’s.

As a draw for the non-traditional therapeutic massage customer, Hall boasts the Hot Stone massage, which utilizes direct heat that creates a greater intensity than your typical massage.

“The heat from the stones causes the muscle tissues to relax more quickly and allows the therapist to get deeper into the muscles without using a lot of force. The session is similar to a regular massage, but it usually takes about 90 minutes to complete,” Hall said.

Hall is also aware of the body image issues that some customers will have, and tries to combat this issue delicately.

“I try to make people as comfortable as possible and explain in detail what happens during a session. Hopefully, educating people that have never had a massage may make them more at ease about it,” Hall added.

Rates for Axis BodyWork therapeutic massages typically correlate with the length of the massage. A simplistic, half-hour massage costs $30. For a grueling 90-minute Hot Stone massage, Hall charges $90.
