Art After Hours and The Nashville Association of Art Dealers (NAAD) presents “Art Saves Lives,” a citywide artistic opportunity to support the victims of the
The event will take place on Thursday, June 2, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Among the evening’s highlights:
- The Cumberland Gallery (Green Hills) begins a series of discussions with artists, who will be exploring the theories and processes of their work, beginning with Nashville painter Dane Carder. The discussion will begin at 6:30 p.m.
- Gallery One (Belle Meade Galleria) will be showing the surrealist paintings of California artist Jeff Faust.
- LeQuire Gallery (Charlotte Avenue) continues its exhibition, Influences of White, featuring paintings and sculptures inspired by the color white from Maggie Rose, Lori Putnam, Somers Randolph, Ben Caldwell, Alan LeQuire, Marti Jones Dixon and Joshua Bronaugh. Tom Turnbull also joins the group with a new collection of porcelain pottery featuring a special white-on-white glaze created exclusively for this exhibit.
- LeQuire Gallery (Green Hills) will be featuring handmade paper books in all sizes (starting with 1-inch books) by Claudia Lee.
- Local Color (on Broadway) continues its exhibition of new works by Sandee Sander and Anita Westerberg. In addition, artists Charles Cox, Lee Hamblen, and Emily Miller will be featured. These artists lost their homes in the Nashville flood and for this evening, 100 percent of their art sales will go directly to these artists.
- Zeitgeist (Hillsboro Village) opens the first of three summer ensemble exhibitions, Right to Assemble. The exhibits will showcase luminaries from the Nashville artist studio, university and independent art scene. This month’s group show features diverse artwork by Nicole Baumann, Mark Bynon, Shannon Clarke, Joe Saunders, and Patrick Schlafer.
The evening also will benefit Finer Things Gallery. As a result of the destructive storms in May, Finer Things was forced to close its doors after suffering considerable loss at the location next to the Fairgrounds. More than 10 feet of water flooded Finer Things and the gallery grounds, sweeping away larger-than-life outdoor sculptures. Owner Rusty Wolfe’s studio was submerged with water destroying the tools and equipment that he used on a daily basis to create beautiful furnishings and artwork (i.e. his livelihood). In addition, Rusty and Kim’s private living space and furnishings were also destroyed.
NAAD will host special benefits for Finer Things Gallery at various membership galleries throughout the summer, beginning with Cumberland Gallery on June 3 during Art After Hours. Many of the artists represented by Finer Things have donated their work to be sold and 100 percent of all sales of work by Finer Things artists will go to support rebuilding the gallery. In addition, Finer Things Gallery will be configured in The Arts Company Avant-Garage Gallery on Friday, June 11, from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., and Saturday, June 12, during regular gallery hours.
Other galleries participating in Art After Hours include (but not limited to) The Arts Company, Midtown Gallery, Bennett Galleries, Richland Fine Art, and Vanderbilt University Fine Arts Gallery. Frist Center for the Visual Arts and the Parthenon at Centennial Park present exhibitions free to members and with a fee to non-members. For more information, click here.
