A Very Late Night Christmas

What happens when you get Ron Megee, Jessica Dressler, Chadwick Brooks and the entire Late Night Theatre creative team together? Why, nothing less than a festive holiday play to round out their 2014 season.

What began with Golden! Girls Gone Wild!!! at the new Missie B’s stage in March (then reprised in September) and continued with The Dykes of Hazzard in July will now conclude with I Will Always Love You! No one can dispute that Late Night Theatre is back in a big way in Kansas City.

The play is written by Ron Megee and Jessica Dressler, and Megee is the director.

“The show is a wild variety show parodying the Dolly Parton/Kenny Rogers Christmas specials of the ’80s,” said Dressler. “It’s heavily based on musical guests and clips from popular television shows of the time. The music is anything but holiday-reverent, and the clips are live sketch comedy. It’s the perfect alternate to the Nutcracker and Christmas Carol, our city’s traditional holiday shows (which I’m a huge fan of -- I love gooey good feelings). It’s wild, it’s irreverent, and you somehow still walk out feeling really good about the season!”

Their press release promises special holiday appearances from members of the Brady Bunch family, the girls from Facts of Life, and even Whitney Houston. It concludes that “It’s destined to be ‘A Very Late Night Christmas.’”

I Will Always Love You stars Ashley Otis as Dolly Parton, Jessica Dressler as Kenny Rogers, Christopher Barksdale as Whitney Houston, Katie Gilchrist and Chadwick Brooks.

Wigs and makeup are by Andy Chambers, and Landon Vonderschmidt did the photography. Logo and poster design were done by Jon Fulton Adams. The show is produced by One Trunk Productions, Megee, Dressler and Brooks.

The performances run Fridays through Mondays from Dec. 5-22 on the Missie B’s stage, 805 W 39th St, Kansas City, Mo. Shows start at 8 p.m. Box office opens at 7 p.m.; doors open at 7:30. General admission seating is $15, VIP first seating upgrade $10 sold at the door. Must be 21 to enter. Rated R.
