Preps are known for their clothes, involvement in the arts and giving an arm and leg for the latest issue of Vouge.
They randomly host a party for no reason every so often. Try to keep the party “clean” (which means light drinking only). If you see someone getting drunk, don't let them drive or hurt themselves or others. Don't get drunk yourself — you will look like an idiot! Preps don’t do that.
If shopping for a prep, keep in mind, they wear respectable brand name clothes such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, LaCoste, The North Face and J Crew to name a few. Rugby T-shirts and chinos help the preppy guy. Also, shop for clothes that come in classic preppy colors such as navy blue, yellow, sky blue, Nantucket red, pink and don’t forget lime green. If you want to buy the prep in your life, shoes, go with a great loafer in a cognac or cordovan color for the fall and winter.
Being well groomed is important, so you could buy him a great manicure tool set, or shaving products and cologne. Keep the scents clean, and stick with one scent. Don’t mix several fragrances.
Carrying a handkerchief is a classy thing to do as a prep, so think about getting one monogrammed for a special gift. If you want to go all out for that special preppy person, a membership to a country club, the Frist Center, Tennessee Performing Arts Center, Cheekwood or tickets to the next symphony or ballet would be lovely gifts.
