Health and Fitness - Look Within Your Body to Prepare for a Crisis

Some moments in life stop you in your tracks and make you wonder what it is all about. It could be the death of your good friend, the loss of a job, a home foreclosure, or a separation from your partner of all those many years. These are the moments that can make you a stronger and healthier person … if you allow it.

Your body is under constant attack from viruses and germs. Your body also has an amazing ability to ward off these evil foes and keep you safe and healthy. You must do the same with the negative news and situations that surround your life.

You can’t ignore the bad news. Your body does not ignore the lurking masses that are on seek-and-destroy missions. Your white blood cells find these irksome invaders and eliminate them. However, these white blood cells remember the details of the marauding monsters so that they are better equipped to handle any subsequent invasions.

You can do the same with all the bad moments that occur in your life. You should never ignore the sad and difficult situations that dot your landscape. Face them, and be ready to analyze them so you are better able to handle similar future attacks to your well-being.

Look to others to help you deal with these moments of mayhem. Your white blood cells don’t fight off the bad guys on their own. They have the support of the circulatory system, the brain, the lymph nodes, and many other parts of the body. You would be wise to accept the assistance of others in your dark and daunting moments.

Your friends and family can provide the perfect synergy to get through those times of trouble and struggle. Use these people’s encouragement, empathy and support to help minimize the potential pain that could destroy your health.

Death, destruction and decay are all part of our lives. Use these moments to make you stronger and healthier. Your other option is to let those difficulties crush your spirit and steal your sunshine.

Instead, stay focused on the moments of mirth from your past. Look upon the happy memories of your deceased friend. Look upon the skills you learned from your lost job. Look upon the celebrations and excitement that once filled the rooms of your foreclosed home. Keep your emphasis on the positive side of days gone by to help you stay healthy and happy for today and tomorrow.

Look around and see what you have right now. You are alive. You can see the sky, the mountains, the river, and the trees. You can feel the cool wind, the warmth of the sun, and the passionate kiss. You can hear the crashing waves, the rustling leaves, and the dolce symphony of birds. There is still plenty to enjoy even during those difficult times.

Nurse Practitioner Ari Kravitz

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
