ACT 1 debuts Southern-fried cult classic 'Sordid Lives'

Sordid Lives is often referred to by its tag line, “a black comedy about white trash,” and ACT 1 is proud to be the first Nashville theatre company to bring this crowd-pleasing favorite to Middle Tennessee audiences.

The story centers around three generations of a small town Texas family coming together for the funeral of their matriarch, who actually died after tripping over her lover’s wooden legs during a rendezvous at the local motel.

Director Dave McGinnis can’t wait for audiences to experience the full gallery of Sordid Lives’ colorful characters. McGinnis notes, “What I love about Del’s plays, is even through some absurd situations and characters, the shows always have a message. Sordid Lives gives great insight into accepting people for who they are as well as being able to simply be yourself and not feel the need to hide behind a mask of what you feel society thinks is acceptable.”

The cast of Sordid Lives is chalk full of Music City theatre veterans including Melissa Williams, Rusti Rae, Chuck Long, Jennifer Whitcomb-Olivia, Joy Tilley Perryman, Trey Palmer, Jim Manning, Holly Butler, Pam Jasper, Macon Kimbrough, Tim Bush, Tammy Southerland, Michael Welch and Jessica Childs.

Sordid Lives has attracted a ravenous following over the years and McGinnis hopes that will translate into big crowds for ACT 1’s production. Devoted fans of the movie and play can quote most of the lines verbatim. Sordid Lives viewing parties are akin to a southern version of midnight movie favorite The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

ACT 1’s production of the contemporary classic Sordid Lives is playing at the Darkhorse Theatre, located at 4610 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville, TN 37209. Performance dates are Oct. 4, 5, 6, 10, 11 and 12. All performances begin at 7:30 pm except Sunday, Oct. 6 matinee, which begins at 2:30 pm.

For ticket information and purchases, please visit TicketsNashville.com or the award-winning ACT 1 website at act1online.com. All individual tickets are $15. When accompanied by a paying adult, secondary school students get in free on Thursdays and Sundays.

SHOREHAM, VT (September 13, 2023) — WhistlePig Whiskey, the leaders in independent craft whiskey, and Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake are waving the checkered flag on a legend-worthy release that’s taking whiskey to G-Force levels. The Limited Edition PiggyBack Legends Series: Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is a high Rye Whiskey selected by the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake drivers, with barrels trialed in their wind tunnel to ensure a thrilling taste in every sip.

The third iteration in WhistlePig’s Single Barrel PiggyBack Legends Series, the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is bottled at 96.77 proof, a nod to Valtteri Bottas’ racing number, 77, and the precision of racing. Inspired by Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese F1 driver, this Rye Whiskey is finished with lychee and oolong tea. Herbal and floral notes of the oolong tea complement the herbaceous notes of WhistlePig’s signature PiggyBack 100% Rye, rounded out with a juicy tropical fruit finish and a touch of spice.

by Spectrum Medical Care Center

Nurse Practitioner Ari Kravitz

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
