ACLU of Tennessee to offer Students Rights Conference

The American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee will be sponsoring their annual Students’ Rights Conference entitled “Youth in Action: Know Your Rights, Know Your Tools” on Saturday, Oct. 22. This free conference, held in Nashville, will focus on young people’s rights, both in school and in the community.

Conference topics include freedom of speech and expression, Internet privacy and responsibility, interactions with law enforcement, LGBT rights and tools for making change. The interactive sessions will demonstrate how to create change, outline student’s rights, and discuss the responsibilities of freedom.

Confirmed speakers to date include Metro Nashville Police Department Office of Professional Accountability Sergeant Anna-Maria Williams, Oasis Center Youth Action Coordinator Lawanda Bradley, First Amendment Center Scholar David Hudson, ACLU-TN Communications Director Lindsay Kee and ACLU-TN Legal Director Tricia Herzfeld.

“The conference brings together a diverse group of students to discuss their rights, responsibilities and civil liberties concerns as they prepare to become active participants in their community,” said Hedy Weinberg, ACLU-TN Executive Director.  “Past attendees have said that the conference taught them ‘about rights [they] didn’t know [they] had and how to exercise and protect them.’”

ACLU-TN is the only statewide organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the constitutional guarantees of the Bill of Rights.  An affiliate of the national ACLU, ACLU-TN is a private, non-profit, non-partisan membership organization.

The conference is for high school students only. Registration is from 9:30-10:00 a.m. on the day of the conference.  The program will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:30 p.m.  Lunch and snacks will be provided free of charge.  The Youth Opportunity Center is located at 1704 Charlotte Avenue in Nashville.

While there is no cost to attend, students must pre-register for the conference

WhistlePig + Alfa Romeo F1

SHOREHAM, VT (September 13, 2023) — WhistlePig Whiskey, the leaders in independent craft whiskey, and Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake are waving the checkered flag on a legend-worthy release that’s taking whiskey to G-Force levels. The Limited Edition PiggyBack Legends Series: Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is a high Rye Whiskey selected by the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake drivers, with barrels trialed in their wind tunnel to ensure a thrilling taste in every sip.

The third iteration in WhistlePig’s Single Barrel PiggyBack Legends Series, the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is bottled at 96.77 proof, a nod to Valtteri Bottas’ racing number, 77, and the precision of racing. Inspired by Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese F1 driver, this Rye Whiskey is finished with lychee and oolong tea. Herbal and floral notes of the oolong tea complement the herbaceous notes of WhistlePig’s signature PiggyBack 100% Rye, rounded out with a juicy tropical fruit finish and a touch of spice.

Nurse Practitioner Ari Kravitz

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
